About

Hello! My name is Nick. This website I made is for collecting notes and tutorials covering my personal topics of interest related to STEM. It is written and maintained by one person: myself. I just like to learn things and write about stuff.

Below are my credentials:

  • PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - Double Major)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Two majors: Japanese and Asian Studies)

Why this site exists

The primary audience is me. I've found in my experience that writing things down clearly in a way so that other people or my future self can understand is one of the most reliable ways to consolidate understanding of a topic.

My second motivation for building this site is to improve my web development and programming skills. I also get to have control over the design, structure, and functionality of the website. I've used note-taking software like OneNote and memorisation software like Anki, and they are incredibly useful. However, if I have control over the software, I have more freedom to create the learning and studying experience that I want.

I welcome anyone else who wishes to use this website for study and learning.

What to expect

Content falls roughly into two categories:

  1. Articles on topics I already know well written to consolidate and structure that knowledge. This is usually biochemistry and molecular biology.
  2. Articles on topics I am less familiar with, written from the perspective of working things out. I try to research carefully and explain concepts in the way I would have wanted to encounter them the first time. These articles could be anything from across STEM that I find interesting or useful.

The assumed background therefore varies from article to article. Some posts presume comfort with biochemistry, molecular biology, or programming. Other posts start from first principles.
